AI Chatbot Integration for Websites Useful, bounded and honest about being a machine

We add an AI chatbot to your website or shop for defined jobs such as answering questions or qualifying enquiries, with data protection planned in.

A chatbot is worth adding when it removes a specific, repeated chore: answering the same questions about opening times, delivery or services, collecting the details of an enquiry, or guiding visitors to the right page. We start from that job rather than from the technology. Then we connect a language model to your own content, set the limits on what it may say, and make sure a person can take over. Data protection is part of the design, not an afterthought.

Where a chatbot helps

Typical, realistic jobs are:

  • answering frequently asked questions from your published pages;
  • collecting the details of an enquiry or quote request before a person follows up;
  • helping visitors find a product, service or document;
  • guiding a visitor through a form or a booking process;
  • routing requests to the right person or department.

It is a poor fit for decisions with legal or financial consequences, or for any task where an incorrect answer could cause harm. We say so when we see it.

How it is built

We connect a language model to a defined set of your documents and pages, so answers are drawn from material you control. We write instructions that limit scope, set a fallback response for questions the bot cannot answer, and log conversations only as far as you have agreed. Before launch we test it with realistic and awkward questions, and we agree who in your team reviews the transcripts afterwards and updates the sources.

UK GDPR and consent

A chat conversation can contain personal data. Under UK GDPR you need a lawful basis, decided before you start and documented, and the ICO expects your privacy information to state your purposes, the lawful basis, who receives the data (including anyone processing it on your behalf) and how long you keep it. If the chat widget stores or reads information on the visitor's device, PECR also applies: the ICO says that, unless an exception applies, you must explain the technology and get prior consent. One exception covers storage that is strictly necessary to provide the service the user requests. The ICO also says that continuing to use a website does not count as valid consent. We help you prepare the technical side; the legal assessment remains yours or your adviser's.

Contracts and the EU AI Act

If a model provider processes chat data on your behalf, UK GDPR (Article 28) requires a contract with that processor, made in writing, which can be in electronic form. We check which provider and data location are used and flag what needs to be in your contract. If you serve users in the EU, Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act requires providers to design AI systems that interact directly with people so that users are informed they are dealing with an AI, unless that is obvious. The information must be clear and distinguishable, given at the latest at the first interaction, and must meet accessibility requirements. The European Commission states that Article 50 has applied since 2 August 2026 and that fines can reach 15 million euros or 3% of total worldwide turnover. We build the notice into the interface.

Costs and next steps

Cost depends on the job, the number of sources, the integrations (such as your CRM or booking tool), the languages and the ongoing running costs of the model. We do not publish a flat price; you receive a figure on request after a short scoping call. A website itself starts from 300 € excl. VAT, see pricing. Frequently asked questions

Can the chatbot answer only from my own content?

We connect it to a defined set of your documents and instruct it to stay in scope, with a fallback answer when it cannot help.

Do users have to be told it is an AI?

For EU users, yes: Article 50 of the AI Act, which the Commission says has applied since 2 August 2026, requires users to be informed they are dealing with an AI unless that is obvious. We build the notice into the interface.

Is chat data personal data?

It can be. You need a lawful basis, clear privacy information and, where a provider processes the data for you, a written processor contract.

What does it cost?

It depends on the job, sources, integrations and languages, so it is given on request after a scoping call.

Can a person take over?

Yes. We design a handover to your team by email, form or live chat.
