TYPO3 Development

TYPO3 for sites that have to last, grow and stay maintainable

Service Details

TYPO3 Development Long-lived sites need a plan for versions, not just a launch

TYPO3 sites, extensions, upgrades and editor training for organisations with large, multilingual or long-lived websites.

TYPO3 is an open-source content management system, licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later, and suited to larger, structured websites: many editors, many languages, several sites under one roof. We build new TYPO3 sites, write extensions, plan version upgrades and train your editors, and we tell you honestly when a lighter system would do the job.

When TYPO3 is the right tool

TYPO3 presents itself as an open-source enterprise CMS. It suits organisations with a team of editors who need roles and permissions, several language versions, a defined content structure, or a family of related sites. For a five-page brochure site it is usually more system than you need, and we will suggest a simpler route. The decision is made on your requirements and your team, not on our preference.

Versions and support: plan ahead

TYPO3 follows a long-term-support (LTS) model. According to the official documentation, an LTS version is planned every 18 months and gets full support, bug fixes and security fixes, for at least three years; support covers the current and the preceding LTS release. After that, paid Extended Long Term Support (ELTS) from the vendor is available for older versions. The deprecation policy promises fixed platform requirements, such as PHP and database versions, for the lifetime of each LTS version, and says an upgrade can skip one LTS version, for example from 10 LTS to 12 LTS. On 20 October 2026, get.typo3.org showed:

VersionFree supportPaid ELTS until
TYPO3 14 LTS (recommended for new projects)Bug fixes until December 2027, security updates until 30 June 202930 June 2032
TYPO3 13 LTSSecurity updates until 31 December 202731 December 2030
TYPO3 12Ended 30 April 202630 April 2030
TYPO3 11Ended 31 October 202431 October 2028

For you this means a site on TYPO3 12 or older is outside free support and needs either an upgrade or ELTS. Check the current table on get.typo3.org before you decide.

What we do

  • New builds and relaunches: structure, templates, content types and migration of existing content.
  • Extensions: custom functions written against the core, documented so another developer can take them over.
  • Upgrades: an inventory of extensions, a staging copy, test runs and a rollback plan before the live switch.
  • Multilingual and multi-site set-ups: language handling, site structure and editor permissions.
  • Editor training: short sessions and a written guide, so the site does not depend on us for daily changes.

Accessibility for public bodies and others

In Germany, federal public bodies must make their websites and apps accessible under the Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BGG) and the BITV 2.0. The BITV does not name the standard directly but refers to the harmonised standards published in the Official Journal of the EU; according to the Bundesfachstelle Barrierefreiheit that is currently EN 301 549 V3.2.1 (2021-03). These bodies must also publish an accessibility statement and offer a feedback mechanism. If you serve consumers in the German market, the BFSG may apply to you as well. We build templates with accessibility in mind and can review an existing site; see our services for the audit. We do not give legal advice.

Working with us

Start with a short conversation about your site, your editors and your current version. We then propose scope and a version plan. Costs depend on the size of the site, the number of extensions and languages, so we quote on request; websites in general start from 300 € excl. VAT for simple presentation sites, see pricing. We do not list client names here; ask via references. To begin, request a quote or contact us.

Frequently asked questions

Is TYPO3 free?

TYPO3 CMS is licensed under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later, so there is no licence fee for the software. Development, hosting and maintenance still cost money.

How long is a TYPO3 version supported?

LTS versions get full bug and security support for at least three years. TYPO3 14 LTS has free security updates until 30 June 2029; for versions out of free support, paid ELTS is available (status 20 October 2026, get.typo3.org).

Can you upgrade our old TYPO3 site?

Usually yes. We inventory extensions, work on a staging copy and prepare a rollback before going live.

Do editors need training?

We recommend it. The TYPO3 documentation notes that new releases can change the backend, so editor training may be needed after an upgrade. Short sessions and a written guide keep daily changes in your hands.

What does it cost?

It depends on size, extensions and languages, so it is quoted on request.
